Tännforsen
SSweden’s biggest waterfall, just west of Åre. One side is easy to reach by ramp or trail, but the best view is from below where you can frame the full drop — and sometimes a rainbow in the spray. Be careful, the rocks get very slippery.

How to find the location
Tännforsen is easily located by car 22km (20 minutes) east of Åre.
Byxtjärn
A beautiful small mountain lake with Åreskutan rising in the background — perfect for reflections on a calm day.

How to find the location
An easy mountain hike, just over an hour along trail 221 from Fröå Mine.
View of Åreskutan from Undersåker
Every time I visit Åre, I return here to photograph Åreskutan across the river, with the old wooden boat as foreground. Sunsets often paint the sky and water in dramatic colors.

How to find the location
Easily accessible from road Z645 in Undersåker, just when you turn right from Vålådalsvägen (I could not pin the exact location on Google maps) with parking just nearby.
Ristafallet
One of Sweden’s most beautiful waterfalls, 14 meters high and 50 meters wide. A forested island splits the fall in two, so you see different views from the north and south banks. In spring the water is at its most powerful, while in winter you can even reach ice caves when the falls are frozen. Ristafallet is also known as Glupafallet in the film Ronja the Robber’s Daughter.

How to find the location
Ristafallet is located about 18 km east of Åre, just outside Duved. There’s a campsite right by the waterfall with parking and marked paths leading to several viewpoints on both sides of the river.
Ottsjön
A calm lake with Ottsjötoppen rising in the background. Mornings often bring fog over the water, while evenings glow with sunset light. From the small forest road you can park and walk along the sandy shore to photograph mountains, islands, and the boats moored nearby.

How to find the location
About 10 minutes by car from Undersåker. Driving from Åre along road Z644, you’ll see the lake appear on your right. There are small parking spots by the roadside, and from there it’s only a short walk down to the water.
